Alex Rins’ debut MotoGP season goes from bad to worse as a broken wrist has ruled him out of any further action at Austin and his home Jerez race is in doubt too.
Rins broke his left radius and ulna in the highside at turn 19 just weeks after he injured his ankle in a motocross training accident. He was taken to a local hospital.
At his arrival at the University Medical Center Brackenridge, Rins was evaluated both by the orthopaedic and trauma surgery team and they confirmed a displaced fracture to his left wrist.
The team led by Dr. Austin Hill, Orthopedic Traumatologist, took him to the operating room: “We set his broken wrist and temporarily fixed it with pins. After that he will be able to fly home to Spain, and once the swelling is decreased he will be able to undergo definitive surgery. Everything went very well, he is comfortable and he will likely leave the hospital today,” he said.
