MotoGP Brno: Pedrosa finishes Friday on top

Retiring Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa took advantage of soaring track temperatures at the Brno MotoGP round to claim top spot on the Friday timesheets as the only man to break the 1'56s barrier in the Czech Republic.

Pedrosa stuck in a soft rear Michelin to put in a 1'55.976 on his 16th lap while team-mate Marc Marquez, as is becoming usual, didn't participate in the time attack, staying out on the same set of tyres to put in a scorching race run.

Danilo Petrucci, using a brand new aero package on the Pramac Ducati, claimed second place overall late on with a 1'56.099 with a medium/soft combination while Alvaro Bautista continued his form from this morning to claim third place with a 1'56.144 with a hard/soft combo.

Rookie Hafizh Syahrin took his Monster Yamaha satellite M1 to fifth place, sticking in a 1'56.200 on hard/soft tyres and the Malaysian is probably the least bothered by the high temperatures after spending two weeks at home.

Andrea Dovizioso claimed fifth place using the aero package he debuted at Mugello, one ahead of Maverick Vinales who recovered from a difficult morning session to lap at 1'56.392. Movistar Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi was one further back with Tito Rabat next along.

This morning's fastest man Johann Zarco tried some front-end experiments early in the session which were non-productive and he slumped to ninth place, just in front of Marquez who did ten 1'57s laps and two 1'56s on the same hard/hard combination for the whole session.

Andrea Iannone, Alex Rins and Jack Miller followed the reigning champion while Britain's Cal Crutchlow followed the same tactics as Marquez, using the same hard/hard combination all session but only managed six 1'57s and ended in 14th. Jorge Lorenzo was 15th after being unable to make his favoured soft front work.
