MotoGP Catalunya: Quartararo claims maiden Moto2 pole

​Frenchman Fabio Quartararo claimed his maiden Moto2 pole position in Barcelona on his Speed Up machine.

Still only 19, Quartararo has flattered to deceive since making the move up from as the Junior World Champion at just 15, however his lap time of a 1.43.474 was good enough to see him claim his maiden pole position in the Moto2 class.

Quartararo’s lap with two minutes to go caught Alex Marquez out who had posted the provisional pole time with just over ten minutes to go, taking the provisional pole from long time session leader Marcel Schrotter. However, neither Marquez nor Schrotter could respond to Quartararo’s time.

World Championship leader Pecco Bagnaia will head the second row on his Sky Racing VR46 Kalex in fourth position with the KTM of Brad Binder and Kalex of Mattia Pasini joining him on the second row.

Xavi Vierge will start from seventh position alongside MotoGP bound Joan Mir and Sam Lowes in eighth and ninth places respectively. Lorenzo Baldassarri rounded out the top ten on his HP Pons 40 machine.

World Championship challenger Miguel Oliveira will have a lot of work to do in tomorrows race as he starts way down on the sixth row in sevententh position.
