MotoGP championship ‘not over’ for Lorenzo after German disaster

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo is adamant his bid to retain the crown in 2017 is far from over despite a disastrous Sachsenring round which saw him score a single point while points leader Marc Marquez racked up his third win of the year.

Lorenzo’s weekend started badly with a crash at the start of free practice one and then went downhill - save for a blip at the end of qualifying one where he found some pace. Yesterday’s rain-hit race saw the Mallorcan with no confidence in the front his Movistar Yamaha and, consqeuently, a total lack of speed.

"No, no, the championship is not finished until we don't have the mathematical chance to win. Everything can happen,” said Lorenzo, speaking at the track.

"We saw today that Marc, who is very brave in other conditions, very fast in other conditions, crashed this morning in the warm-up and he's been lucky not to get injured, no?

"We saw in other championships that a leader with a big advantage can lose the championship. You have to be positive and still believe that it's possible.

"But firstly we have to recover the confidence, recover the good results that we don't have now. It has been three races very bad for us, in different circumstances."
