MotoGP Germany: Iannone fastest as Dovizioso forced to go through Q1

Andrea Iannone continued his good form around the Sachsenring topping the combined MotoGP free practice sessions.

The Italians fastest lap of the session came extremely late after a flurry of late laps from all riders. Ultimately it was the Italian on his Suzuki GSX-RR who was fastest with a 1:20.438, which was 0.099 faster than Danilo Petrucci and his Pramac Ducati.

Cal Crutchlow waited until his final lap of the session to jump into third position with a 1:20.615 on his LCR Honda which was just ahead of the recovering Valentino Rossi and the surprising Alvaro Bautista.

Marc Marquez’ flying lap was halted by a touring Aleix Espargaro but his next best effort was good enough for sixth place just 0.296 seconds behind Iannone. Maverick Vinales was a further 0.039 seconds behind his compatriot in seventh place.

Fastest on day one, Jorge Lorenzo had to settle for eighth place albeit just 0.337 seconds off the fastest time of the weekend. Alex Rins was ninth whilst Dani Pedrosa delivered a good lap to sneak into the top ten.

Andrea Dovizioso will be forced to go through Q1 in order to have his shot at pole position after only finishing eleventh through the three free practice session. Aleix Espargaro was twelfth and just ahead of Jack Miller, Bradley Smith and Johann Zarco who rounded out the top fifteen.
