MotoGP Germany: Jorge Martin flies to sixth Moto3 pole of 2018

Jorge Martin claimed his sixth pole position of the season at the Sachsenring this afternoon as the Spaniard looks to assert his dominance on the Moto3 World Championship.

Leading the session early, Martin continued to work on his own and put the fastest lap of the early runs. After a lull in the middle of the 40-minute session Martin came back out and went even faster. Slipstreaming behind Alonso Lopez, Martin fought through Oettl and Kornfiel who were both going slow on the racing line to further improve his lap time and ultimately claim the pole with a 1:26.434.

Marcos Ramirez and Enea Bastianini, who both ended less than a tenth behind the Gresini Honda man, will join Martin on the front row.

With Martin claiming another pole position, the pressure was on his rivals who didn’t rise to the task. World Championship challengers Marco Bezzecchi and Aron Canet both highsided early in the session whilst Friday’s fastest man Lorenzo Dalla Porta suffered a similar fate.

Jaume Masia will head the second row of the grid for the race after posting a lap just under three-tenths behind Martin. Canet and Tony Arbolino who were fifth and sixth respectively will join Masia on the second row.

Bezzecchi salvaged seventh position in spite of his crash with John McPhee eighth and Ayumu Sasaki ninth. Fabio Di Giannantonio will start from tenth and the front of the fourth row with Albert Arenas and Gabi Rodrigo alongside the Italian.
