MotoGP Germany: Pasini claims pole with Moto2 circuit record

Mattia Pasini put in the fastest ever Moto2 lap around the Sachsenring ring to claim pole position ahead of Luca Marini and World Championship leader Pecco Bagnaia.

With unusually high temperatures a lot of the fastest laps of the session were doing in the early stages. Pasini’s record lap of a 1:23.787 was done on just his fourth lap of the session.

The Sky Racing VR46 duo of Luca Marini and Pecco Bagnaia have showed good pace all weekend and were separated by just 0.002 seconds with Marini just piping his more experienced team-mate to start from the middle of the second row.

Sam Lowes will head the second row and was the fastest KTM bike just 0.183 seconds off of Pasini’s pole position lap time. Lorenzo Baldassarri will start from fifth position with Friday fast man Xavi Vierge rounding out the second row.

Alex Marquez suffered a small wrist injury after a nasty FP3 crash and after fighting through the pain will start from seventh position. Despite starting from the front of the third row, Marquez’ time was just 0.292 behind Pasini. Marquez’ Estrella Galicia 0,0 team mate Joan Mir will start one spot further back in eighth with Marcel Schrotter rounding put the third row.

Brad Binder will lead off the fourth row with Romano Fenati and Danny Kent starting from eleventh and twelfth respectively. The top twelve riders were separated by just 0.525 seconds in what proved to be a strange session.
