MotoGP Germany: Redding puzzled by first-lap crash

Britain’s Scott Redding is puzzled by the crash that put him out of Sachsenring’s MotoGP race yesterday as he feels he didn’t do anything differently than he had during the weekend.

Redding lost the front into the last corner on lap one but said his data showed he wasn’t carrying any more speed than his best lap in qualifying but still ended up skittering across the gravel.

“I went in with a little higher speed but not more than on my fastest lap, just on brake release lost the front. It felt like tyre temperature but it was on a left. If it had been on a right I would accept it. I didn’t feel any bite from the tyre,” said Redding, speaking at the track.

“I didn’t go in thinking I wasn’t going to make it, I put it in, looked for the exit and the next thing I know I am holding it on its side. It’s frustrating because you see the laptimes from the other guys and I could have been in that third group but I didn’t get the chance.

“Normally in the race, I am struggling to get the tyres to work, if its not the front, its the rear. At Assen, I was ploughing the front the whole time. Here, I had good rhythm all weekend, good pace, and I was letting it work but the next thing I was down.”
