MotoGP Jerez: Front-end grip woes end Redding charge

Britain’s Scott Redding suffered a massive lack of front-end grip as the track temperature soared during today’s Jerez MotoGP and the youngster felt like he was going to crash at every corner.

The Estrella Galicia Marc VDS Honda man had pushed through the qualifying two automatically with sound free practice times but the final timed session, with a track temperature of 48°C proved to be his undoing.

“I don’t really have much to say about today. The feeling with the bike was good this morning, but from the start of the final free practice there was just no grip at the front at all. As soon as I got on the edge of the tyre the front was just going away from me, in almost every corner,” said Redding.

“I just didn’t have any confidence that the tyre was going to grip at all; it felt like it was going to tuck everywhere. We made changes to the set up for qualifying, which brought a small improvement, but we need to make a much bigger step for tomorrow if we’re to get the result we’re capable of here.”

Team boss Michael Bartholemy said the team will work long into the night in order to try and find a solution to the problem ahead of tomorrow’s race. Redding will start from tenth on the grid.
