MotoGP Le Mans: Honda ‘impossible to ride’ for Marquez

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez fell further behind Valentino Rossi in the 2015 title chase at Le Mans when increased track temperatures made it ‘impossible’ for the young Spaniard to ride in the early laps.

Marquez, like the rest of the championship contenders, chose soft front and rear Bridgestones but it proved to be a mistake for the RC213V-mounted riders as all of them struggled.

Marquez dropped back to sixth from pole while Cal Crutchlow and Scott Redding both crashed out. Dani Pedrosa, on the second works RCV, also crashed but re-mounted.

“Yesterday, the feeling was very good and also this morning but this afternoon, the track temperature change a lot. It was much higher and we thought that was better for us but it was completely the opposite,” said Marquez, speaking at the track.

“I had a lot of problem with the front tyre, especially in the first part of the race. In the end, it was coming better but in the first part it was impossible to ride the bike and when I saw that I say OK, we will take points and try to finish the race.”

As the front tyre came to him, Marquez was able to battle through and eventually netted fourth after a hard scrap with Ducati’s Andrea Iannone, which saw them swap places and paint several times, and cheered up an otherwise dull race.

“It was a nice battle and a hard race for me to keep the concentration when you cannot ride like you want and then when I catch Iannone, we start a great battle, it was nice for both.”
