MotoGP Sepang test II: Rossi blames traffic for slow times

Both Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo got the full seamless-shift gearbox upgrade they were desperate for at the second Sepang MotoGP and the Spaniard flew with it, setting his best ever lap around the Malaysian circuit.

Lorenzo upped his game to a 1’59.437, 0.187 quicker than the first test while Rossi went the other way, slowing by 0.432s from Sepang I to Sepang II and not putting in a race simulation this afternoon.

The Doctor blamed traffic holding him up on his time attack laps but the Movistar Yamaha man has never been shy about dispensing with slower riders and seems upbeat about the past three days, even though the times tell a different story.

“At the end it has been a positive test. I’m not very happy about my position and my lap time as I wasn't able to make a good lap, I always had traffic and didn't have the right moment to push,” said Rossi.

“I think I could have been faster and in the top three. We continued to work with the gearbox and settings and we worked with the used tyres, where we still have to improve with the new bike. Now it will be very interesting to understand our level in another track as the balance between manufacturers can change there. I’m very curious about Qatar and how competitive we are for the first race.”
