MotoGP teams will be able to communicate with riders via their dashboards from 2018 after a system was ratified by both the series’ safety and Grand Prix commissions.
The system, knows as virtual pitboard, is already in use by race direction to communicate penalties to riders but now teams - who do not have garage-to-helmet radio - will be able to send messages to their riders in qualifying and races – handy in flag-to-flag races.
Race direction have said team managers will have a list of message options to choose from so won’t be able to send whatever they like. So for instance, Davide Tardozzi will not be able to ping Jorge Lorenzo ‘P45’.
