‘Much more work needed’ by Honda this winter, says Marquez

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez has found some positives with the 2017-spec Honda after two days’ testing at Valencia but the lack of grip under acceleration that has plagued all the RC213V riders this year is still very much in evidence.

Marquez found that after a full day of working on electronics with the new motor, some improvements have been made in terms of grip and it was less aggressive on throttle opening but he says a lot more work needs to be done over winter.

“Today again was like yesterday. We did a big change on the bike to try to understand. We spend the day not only playing with the springs to find the best way, we did a big change,” said Marquez, speaking at the track.

“We need to work because when I did long runs it was a completely different bike to what I used in the race. Even like this I was fast but struggling in some points.

“You know, I’m happy about the job that we did here. We must work much more. Honda needs to work much more this winter to give me something more in Malaysia.”
