Mugello MotoGP test ‘a toe in the water’ for Davies

Ducati WorldSBK star Chaz Davies got a taste of the MotoGP Desmosedici GP17 during a test at Mugello but isn’t banking on moving into the blue riband series for next season and all but ruled out a straight swap with Scott Redding.

Davies, currently second the Superbike points table, put in around 30 laps on test rider Michele Pirro’s bike at the Italian track and found it very different to the Panigale he currently champions.

“I rode Michele Pirro’s current and very up-to-date GP17 and it was good. I did about 30 laps, just enough to dip a toe in the water. It is very different in terms of power, handling, even little things like aerodynamics and how you feel the wind. It was a good experience. It’s actually a little bit bigger than the Panigale. There is more room from handlebar to seat for when you’re tucked in,” said told bikesportnews.com.

Davies isn't about to make his move into MotoGP it would seem, as the Welshman would be looking for a factory effort if he were to trade in his Panigale for a Desmosedici.

“I’m contracted to Ducati, more than likely Superbike, but that’s not an absolute given. For me to do a swap with Scott the situation would have to be very right over there. I have to be fair to myself and go for the best bike and the best package. Pramac is a very good package but for me to consider it, it would need to be very much a factory effort - and I’m not even sure if the Pramac option is available.”
