MXGP Germany: Gajser takes advantage as Cairoli breaks down

Former world champion Tim Gajser (Team HRC) was happy with his third-placed finish in yesterday’s qualification race for the MXGP of Germany at Teutschenthal – round eight of the FIM Motocross World Championship.

On the dramatic hard-pack track, Gajser held a race-long fourth until three laps from home when defending champion Tony Cairoli (Red Bull KTM) suffered a technical issue and the Slovenian was able to make a pass.

“Today went quite well,” he said. “I felt good with the bike although the track was quite rough. I didn’t have the best jump off the gate in qualifying but I was on the inside so I was able to take a short line and make it back to fifth place.

“I then made a quick pass on Jeremy [van Horebeek] and rode behind Tony [Cairoli] until he slowed down and stopped. Third place is good for tomorrow so I’m quite happy and looking forward to the two motos.”

The result means Gajser will have third choice of start gate for today’s two points-paying 30-minute plus two lap races behind Holland’s Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) and Frenchman Gautier Paulin (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna).
