Red Bull KTM’s Jeffery Herlings clawed back two championships points on team-mate Tony Cairoli at the Swiss MXGP with his third overall win of the year.
Herlings took sixth in race one but dominated the second moto, taking the lead on lap one and never looking back as he crossed the line with a 4.5s lead over Gaultier Paulin.
“It was the most fun. I thought I’d get a bad start again but got the holeshot! When I get a good start, I can win. The first moto I started 15th and it’s hard to get to the front. It’s my second overall win in a row,” said the Belgian.
Paulin took second overall with a fourth and second but a duel in the second race with Romain Febvre meant Cairoli ended up third place after losing out to the Frenchman.
Britain’s Max Anstie was second in the opening race, finishing eight-tenths behind Arnaud Tonus who took a win in front of his home crowd but it was disaster for the two in the second moto. Anstie got a bad start and went backwards to 28th before recovering to 12th while Tonus collided with Arminas Jasikonis and they both failed to finish. Anstie took fifth overall for the weekend
Tommy Searle made his return to competition and got 16th and 15th which meant an overall position of 15th place.
Cairoli now leads Herlings by 97 points in the title chase with Paulin now moving ahead of Clement Desalle for third. Anstie is 12th.
