Mystery shoulder complaint adds to Redding’s tyre woes

Britain’s Scott Redding had to contend with a mystery complaint in his shoulder towards the end of Austin’s MotoGP round as well as again struggling with corner exit speed on the Octo Ducati.

Redding opted for the harder rear Michelin in Texas but feels it was probably the wrong choice as the amount of spin he was getting meant no corner exit acceleration - a problem he had not suffered through free practice. At the end of a ‘shit’ race, Redding then began to lose strength in his shoulder.

“I don't know what happened my shoulder but for the last six laps I had no power in it. It was a sh*t race anyway. I lost too much time in the beginning of the race and exiting the corner, they just go away from me. I start to make some ground back in the braking area but then I started to stress the front tyre too much,” said Redding, speaking at the track.

“We went with the hard rear and it was just spinning and spinning. It was a difficult start and I made a bit of ground up, but then I just can't run the pace for some reason. In practice I can do it all day long and then it comes to the race I just struggle. I don't know if it's more me or the bike, because I just have no exit grip.

“We tried some things this weekend we thought we could sort it with mapping. It was smoother but it was slower and I don't really know what to do now. I used a lot of energy in the change of direction in the beginning to try and stay with them but then that combined with the shaking down the back straight, and coming out of turn nine down the hill - all of that seems to have done my shoulder.”
