New engine spec boosts Haslam to ‘winning pace’ in testing

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam believes he has the pace for victory at the upcoming Cadwell Park MCE British Superbike round after two days of testing with a new spec engine solved some of the tyre wear issues he has suffered with this year.

Haslam was able to set a fastest lap of 1’26.6 but only drop into the 1’27s at the end of a race run so he is confident at a track where he has a good record in the past.

“We have had a new step with the motor. James tried another step but it didn’t have the connection but I have got my throttle connection and smoothness much better which was one of the issues,” said Haslam, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.

“We also managed to get through most of the test items like different offsets and a pivot point that I have been requesting and they have been proven to help tyre life and consistency, so all in all it has been positive.

“I did a 1’26.6 as my fastest lap but at the end of a run I was doing 1’27.1s . I am confident that if the race was tomorrow we have the pace to win. We will see where everyone else is but right now I am confident for Cadwell.

“Obviously I have a good record there but we have made some good steps. It will be interesting to see if it translates to anywhere else.”
