New WorldSBK rules force Lowes to make big changes

New technical regulations in WorldSBK have forced Pata Yamaha's Alex Lowes to make big changes to his setup and riding style but the Brit is remaining upbeat about his chances this season.

The biggest issue has come from the reduced RPM - which has affected some manufacturers more than others - that means Lowes has to run a totally different pattern of gear ratios and change his style accordingly. The Derby-based rider was still able to put in top-four laptimes at Portimao last weekend

"At both circuits tested so far it's forced me to run a completely different gear pattern but the whole team are working hard like everyone else to get the most out of the new rules. I've been working on used tyre pace and long race runs. ThemMain area of focus on the bike has been corner entry, trying to give me more confidence and feeling," Lowes told bikesortnews.com.

I think I've got the most out of the four days that I could and looking forward to getting the season started. It still looks like Kawasaki are too far away but I am determined to work on myself and with my crew to challenge from the first races and make it interesting."
