O'Halloran 'ready to go' after Yamaha BSB shakedown test

Jason O’Halloran believes the MCAMS Yamaha he will campaign in the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike series is ready to go even after spending only a few hours lapping at Almeria.

The Australian, who had switched away from Honda after a billion years, made his debut on the works-backed R1 in Spain sharing a track with No Limits trackdayers and team-mate Tarran Mackenzie, and reckons that the base bike is so good, it only needs some fine-tuning.

“I clicked with the bike pretty-much straightaway, it was comfortable - even things like the seat and handlebar position felt really good - and then just relaxed into it, and the bike allows you to do that,” said O’Halloran, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“We managed to go really fast, even without the Ohlins guys there and whatever. In the last couple of years, I have had to ride in a certain way because the Honda is so aggressive but this bike really suits my style.

“I sort of thought it would anyway as it’s a flowing bike, not a stop/start bike and in general, I loved it. The Yamaha is much easier to ride, it’s more friendly, you have front contact for starters, which I haven’t had in a long time, both wheels are on the ground and it inspires confidence.

“We are starting from a strong place, the base bike is really good and now it’s just fine tuning. What the guys have done so far is really strong, it’s ready to go. The more I ride it, the better I will ride it because I will learn what it likes and what it doesn’t.

“I will also get rid of some habits I’ve picked up over the last years and start to ride better. It’s going to be good.”
