Oulton BSB: Currie takes debut Supersport win

CF Motorsport’s Ben Currie charged through the Dickies British Supersport field to claim a debut victory in the class.

The rookie was mid pack during the opening stages of the race, with Acumen Triumph’s Luke Jones having taken the holeshot.

As the pack headed towards Island Bend for the first time, Appleyard Macadam’s Andrew Irwin dived past both James Westmoreland and Jake Dixon, causing them both to sit up, which eventually lead to Dixon crashing out as the rear came round on him.

Jones managed to pull clear at the front, as Currie and Westmoreland began chasing down Irwin in second, with both setting fastest laps of the race en route.

The pair eventually caught and passed Irwin at half race distance and set their sights on the race leader.

Currie caught Jones first and passed him, but by this stage Westmoreland’s charge had tailed off and the battle for the lead was down to two.

Currie stretched out his lead to just shy of a second before catching a back marker at the wrong time, allowing Jones to close right back in again.

However, an incident on the run down to Cascades caused the red flag to be brought out and the race victory was handed to Currie.

Westmoreland, despite having a drop in pace, held on to third place and Andrew Irwin came through in fourth.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Luke Hedger took fifth place after battling his way past Ross Twyman. Behind them, championship leader Andy Reid was seventh. His lead now stands at seven points to Westmoreland.

Mason Law ended up eighth, ahead of South African Bjorn Estment and Silicone Kawasaki’s Ben Stafford.
