Oulton BSB: Haslam confident after race simulation

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam used the two MCE British Superbike free practice sessions to undertake some race runs, and he is feeling confident as tyre wear was not an issue for the pace-setter.

Haslam set the fastest time so far this weekend around the Oulton Park track, and was under lap record pace after a 1’34.093. The former World Superbike star used mostly the SC1 rear and also did a few laps on the softer SC0 rear Pirelli tyres and even after 18 rotations only used two tyres.

His team also experimented with the chassis and electronics during FP1 and FP2, and after the strong start Haslam is not going to ‘worry’ about pushing for a good lap time, ahead of Superpole tomorrow as things appear to be going in the right direction already.

We’ve got to be happy as we’re quickest, but we’re experimenting a lot with the chassis and electronics. We had a good test last quick and were quick straight away. I’ve done a few race runs on the hard tyre and a few laps on the softer tyre at the end,” said Haslam.

“Having done race distance twice I’m feeling confident, a lot of other people didn’t get 18 laps in a session let alone two 18 lap race runs today. I’ve only used the two tyres on those runs, and because we’ve started strong we don’t have to worry about pushing for a lap time and instead can focus on trying new things that will benefit us both here and at the future.”
