Oulton BSB: ‘No reason not to start strongly’ - Brookes

Anvil TAG Yamaha’s Josh Brookes is hoping that a change of setup direction that helped him into the 2017 MCE British Superbike Showdown will continue to work at this weekend’s Oulton Park round as he bids to add a second championship to his tally.

The Bringelly rider notched up a win and a second at the Towcester track, and moved into third in the title stakes, only ten points behind series leader Shane Byrne with 175 left in the three remaining rounds.

“The championship starts this weekend, that’s how it is designed, I still hold the lap record at Oulton Park so there’s no reason why I can’t find what I need to start strongly,” said Brookes.

“The bike has moved in a different direction since we were there the last time, hopefully when we return we’ll have a nice setup that will give me confidence and I can push straight away, but that will be seen when we arrive on Friday.

“I expected to be here at this point. You never can guarantee it but throughout the year I expected to be able to sit in this position. I don’t know how to gauge confidence but you have to look at the facts, when I’m riding well and the bike is doing what I need it to do we are in a position to win. Hopefully we can manage the situation so we can stay in that range.”
