Polesitter Jake Dixon says wins are all that matter at this point, but admits it’s his main rival Leon Haslam’s title to lose.
The RAF Regular and Reserves Kawasaki stormed to pole in this afternoon’s Bennetts British Superbike Championship qualifying, as leader Haslam’s afternoon ended in disaster with a mechanical problem which halted his qualifying progress.
And while this means Haslam will start from the back of the grid, Dixon isn’t counting his chickens.
In fact, he is playing down the whole situation, and says all he can do is ride to the best of his abilities and see what happens.
“To be fair I’m not even thinking about where Leon is starting, it’s his to lose at the end of the day, I’m just going to go out and have some fun,” he said.
“Being on pole is fantastic feeling, I can’t explain it. The team has provided me with a great motorbike – I’m just sitting on the bike pulling the throttle back, I’ve got the easy job, they’re the ones setting it up and dealing with me.
“We need race wins, but really the pressure’s on Leon to go and get the results because he’s got the points lead, he’s got 45 point advantage and even if I won every race until the end of the season and he finished second I can’t win the championship.
“I’ve just got to keep hoping for good luck, good results and you just never know. Hopefully at the end of the year we may be celebrating something.”
