Oulton BSB: Reid clinches debut Supersport win

Team Traction Control’s Andy Reid was caught in an epic battle for the Motorpoint British Supersport victory at Oulton Park, but managed to hold off the attacks from his rivals long enough to clinch his maiden win in the class.

At the end of a fraught twelve lapper it was Smiths Racing’s Jake Dixon who came across in a close second, with championship leader Profile Racing’s Luke Stapleford completing the rostrum. Title challenger, Kyle Ryde crashed on the last lap giving Stapleford a 53 point advantage at the top of the standings.

Pole-setter, Reid got the hole-shot ahead of Stapleford and Dixon. But there was some drama on the opening lap at Cascades, as Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin crashed and slid across the track and miraculously managed not to get hit by other riders.

On lap four Stapleford made a mistake and went back four places, but further up the field Dixon edged ahead of Reid as the Northern Irishman touched bikes with his team-mate Rispoli going into Lodge, allowing the Essex lad to lead the race for the first time, with Reid going back to fifth, behind Ryde and Stapleford.

Rispoli made a mistake coming out of Cascades and went slightly wide allowing Stapleford, Reid and Ryde to go past on lap twelve. But with two rotations remaining Stapleford made a move on the Smiths Racing
machine to go into the lead and then Dixon fought back at Hizzy’s only for Reid to slip in to second at Clay Hill.

On the penultimate lap Reid fired a warning shot and upped the pace going into Lodge to overtake Dixon to re-gain the lead, but then Ryde decided to join the party once again. But on the final lap Dixon and Ryde collided at Old Hall and Ryde crashed out while dicing for second, but walked away.

Meanwhile further down the pack, Hornsey and TTC’s James Rispoli completed the top five. Team Haribo Starmix’s Joe Collier rounded up the top ten, and also bagged the leading Evo bike accolade to boot.
