Oulton BSB: Seeley grabs Superstock 1000 win

Tyco BMW’s Alastair Seeley clinched his first Pirelli National Superstock 1000 victory of the year after a red flag ended a brilliant battle for the victory prematurely.

Seeley was joined at the front by Morello Kawasaki’s Josh Elliot and former champion Hudson Kennaugh.

The trio swapped places throughout, noticeably Seeley diving past Elliot for the lead at the sweeping left hander of Island Bend before Elliot replied with a strong move past Seeley on the brakes at the Hizzy Chicane.

Seeley held the lead after posting the fastest lap of the race and with three laps remaining, the race looked to be building towards a frantic ending.

However, the red flag was brought out after Tom Tunstall high sided on the exit of Shell and his bike was left in the middle of the track.

Seeley was therefore handed the victory, the wee wizard of Carrickfergus’ first of the year, after missing out on the win at Brands Hatch due to a last lap technical.

Elliot continued his record of finishing inside the top two and in doing so extended his lead in the championship to eight points over Hudson Kennaugh.

South African Kennaugh picked up the last podium spot, meaning he also yet to finish off of the podium in 2015.

Bathams BMW’s Luke Quigley came across the line in fourth ahead of returning Aussie, Dave Johnson, who recovered from a mid race problem with his Smiths BMW to finish in fifth.

Mancunian Adam Jenkinson clinched sixth place on his brand new Yamaha R1, ahead of Dominic Usher and James East.

Rounding out the top ten was Jessse Trayler and Leon Jeacock.
