Oulton BSB test: Base setting 'working perfectly' for Haslam

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam and his team used the official MCE British Superbike test at Oulton Park to work on a good base setting, ahead of the third round of the championship next weekend at the Cheshire circuit.

Their plan came to fruition as the Smalley racer was able to top the test timesheets and even went under lap record pace with a 1’34.134 - three-tenths quicker than Josh Brookes’ record of a 1’34.483.

A last-minute dash paid off for Haslam as his 24th lap proved to be his best. During the last round at the Brands Indy circuit, the ZX-10RR man felt that he did not go the right way in terms of setup, and felt ‘lacking’ with the bike in some areas.

But Haslam is feeling positive again, and he is feeling confident when doing long runs on the track. He is prepared to fight for podiums once again during the double-header on Bank Holiday Monday.

“For me this has been a really positive test. We had a real tough weekend at Brands Hatch and we felt that we didn’t have the right setup and that, compared to some of the other riders, we were lacking in a few areas, but my base setting here has been working perfectly,” said Haslam at the track.

“We were under the lap record and I felt confident running over race distance. We have re-evaluated and now I feel that we go into the races next weekend positive that we can come out fighting again.”
