Oulton BSB test: Injured Iddon vows to return for round three

Bennetts Suzuki’s Christian Iddon did not take part in today’s MCE British Superbike official test session at Oulton Park as he is still recovering from a broken fibula, but he will return for the third round at the track next week.

The Stockport rider crashed during last week’s first race at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit and even though he managed to get back on the GSX-R1000 to complete the final outing at the Kent track, his team have decided that it would be best if he sat out the test today and concentrate on his rehabilitation.

Iddon is still in some pain, but has been undergoing intense physio and has been visiting the hyperbaric chamber, in order to speed up the injury to his broken leg. The Brit was going to have an operation this week, but has decided against that and is now fully concentrating on making a return to the BSB championship for the free practice sessions next Saturday.

“I broke my fibula and I need the time to recover to make it better. I did actually get hold of the team yesterday to see if my bike was ready, and it was but the team were not keen on me riding, so I have just come to the test to see what Josh Waters is doing, and see how they are getting on,” said Iddon, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.

“I took part in race two, but that caused a lot of swelling, and it was not fluid - it was just blood and the pain so bad. But from yesterday the swelling has subsided. I have decided against an operation and decided to wing it, as it’s the best thing to do and I will be here next week.

“It’s been a tough few days because of the amount of blood stuck in my leg, but I have been in the hyperbaric chamber and having two sessions a day and I am trying to get myself right again.”
