Parkes ready for ‘eye-opening’ BSB circuits

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Broc Parkes says he is ready for some of the eye-opening tracks in this year’s MCE British Superbike Championship and is ready to jump a racebike for the first time at Cadwell Park.

The Aussie, who joins Josh Brookes in the Guisborough-based squad, has only ridden at four of the series’ circuits and three of those form the Showdown rounds, so he needs to capitalise on his visits to Donington and Brands Hatch early doors.

“Some of the tracks are going to be an eye opener. I have always had a bit of a fear of Cadwell because of the jump and the skinny circuit but talking to other riders, they say it’s not as bad as you think,” said Parkes, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the team launch in Italy.

“I come from a dirt-track, motocross background, so hopefully that will help. I grew up racing with Brookesy and did a fair bit of MX. I haven’t jumped a road bike before but hopefully I will be OK. I guess it has got handlebars so we will see.

“I just have to try and capitalise on the tracks I know. Definitely the Showdown tracks I really like, Assen is one of my favourites, Silverstone and Brands are good tracks, but I have to work really hard on the tracks I don’t know.

“There is a lot of competition and we are yet to see what the bike is like on track. Everyone believes it will be really good so I need to get it to the Showdown but until we get it on the track we won’t really know.”
