Phillip Island WorldSBK: Camier pace 'better than I expected'

Red Bull Honda's newboy Leon Camier said he was a little surprised with his pace on the opening day of WorldSBK practice at Phillip Island after taking second behind the Milwaukee Aprilia of Lorenzo Savadori.

The Andorra resident put in a 1'30.722 to finish three-tenths off the pace but, typcially, says he has more work to do on the race tyre before they enter what could be a ten-bike mash up for the win.

"Pretty happy to be honest and a little better than I expected. The pace came early and the bike felt really good. We made some small adjustments to try and work on race pace but it's one of those tracks where you think everything is hunky-dory and you get in the race and it can be a different situation," said Camier, speaking at the track.

"We've got to keep our heads down and see if we can improve on race tyres. The pace looks pretty similar for everyone, maybe Jonathan is a little stronger which isn't unexpected, and maybe we can find something more. For sure we do need a make a step with the race tyre still."
