Phillip Island WSBK: Power delivery the focus for Davies

Aruba Ducati’s Chaz Davies will focus on improving power delivery and engine brake strategy in preparation for tomorrow’s WorldSBK Superpole where the Welshman believes that sub-1’30s laptimes will be the benchmark.

Davies was on the cusp of an outright lap record with his time from this morning’s first free practice session, setting a 1'30.189 on race tyres compared to the best-ever Superbike lap - a 1’30.020 by Tom Sykes on qualifiers last year.

“I think we have worked pretty well today. We were fast this morning and done some work for the race this afternoon, as well as this morning, we mixed up our programme quite a bit and I would say we accomplished what we wanted,” said Davies, speaking at the track.

“I am happy, we have explored some things, some good, some bad, so we will put it all together for tomorrow. We will try to work a little more on the power delivery for the race and try to fine-tune the engine brake a little bit, with some electronics but not much on the chassis.

“Hopefully, Superpole will be better than last year where I was ninth but I am hoping to do better. There is potential for some quick times tomorrow - 1’30.1 on a race tyre is not hanging around and I expect to see sub-1’30s on qualifying tyre.”
