Milwaukee Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty had a ‘disastrous’ afternoon session on the final day of WorldSBK testing in which electronic issues on the factory RSV-4 followed a small crash at MG corner.
But the Irishman says there are some fundamental problems that needed to be sorted out with Noale’s finest before he can begin to make progress with laptimes as he ended 1.3s off the pace on the overall timesheets while team-mate Lorenzo Savadori was four-tenths faster.
“We made some progress this morning but the afternoon was a disaster. We had a small crash at the start and then some other problems with the bike not functioning correctly. We need a bike that runs like a normal bike and then we can progress but until then, no chance,” said Laverty, speaking at the track.
“We have been working more on electronics just to get the bike to function because when there is a fundamental problem like that, first you have to fine tune the base setting. The biggest positive is this isn’t a race weekend. If it was, then we would really be on the back foot but we have time. We can react to this and start fresh on Friday. If we can work well, we have a shot at being there on Sunday."
