Milwaukee Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty lopped more than half a second off his WorldSBK test time in second free practice today at Phillip Island and he now believes they have found the correct setup direction for the RSV-4.

Laverty missed an automatic Superpole two place by a tenth of a second today at a circuit he admits caught the team off-guard but they now progressing in the right direction and will take advantage of the extra 15 minutes of track time in Superpole one.

“This morning wasn’t great but we made some progress this afternoon even though the session was slower. The top guys didn’t go any faster but we managed to go a lot faster than we did at the test. It’s still not enough but we are going in the right direction,” said Laverty, speaking at the track.

“It was frustrating to miss out on Superpole two by just a tenth but we get an extra 15 minutes of track time tomorrow to take advantage of. I had some chatter again in the front which was difficult to handle, but we are making headway; I've already gone 0.6s quicker than I did at the test, so there is a definite positive direction.

“This track has been a big struggle and caught us off-guard but we’re going in the right direction do that’s the main thing. At the test we were completely lost. I couldn’t attack the bike but now we have gone 0.6s faster than the test show it’s shows we’re going the right way.”
