Tom Sykes has been ruled out of any further Portimao WorldSBK action after his race bike turned into a fireball during free practice three this morning.
The Huddersfield rider went down coming over the hill at turn nine at the beginning of free practice three and his ZX-10RR caught fire on the track, pushing Sykes down the hill and burning his arm.
Sykes was taken to the medical centre and has been declared unfit to race due to a dislocated fracture of the fifth finger of the left hand, and is due to fly to Barcelona later today for surgery.
