Silverstone are certainly doing their best to delight MotoGP promoter Dorna. They're going one better than merely patch up areas of the Northamptonshire circuit ruined by F1 and it's massive downforce on fat tyres. They're going to resurface the whole of the 3.6 mile circuit - and work has started.
This follows recommendations by MotoGP safety representative Franco Uncino during negotiations which kept the premier world
series at Silverstone for the next three years.
Resurfacing the circuit totally is an expensive business - not much change out of £2m - particularly for the BRDC which has flirted with bankruptcy. But the current management has improved the finances to the point where, while not out of the woods, they can afford the luxury. They can even contemplate a Silverstone without F1 as various other projects come to fruition!
But as the majority of the British Racing Drivers Club would rather attend a Cobblers Div 2 football match than lose F1, negotiations with the redoubtable F1 chief Chase Carey for renewal of their contract in time for 2019 will remain top of the agenda. The track renewal will at least give them some Brownie points. And the F1 Grand Prix is six weeks ahead of MotoGP due on Aug 26.
