Scott Redding wins BSN British Rider of the Year

All the votes are in, they have been counted, checked and ticked by Sigismund, the mad maths master and you, the bikesportnews.com reading public, have voted Scott Redding as your British Rider of the Year, giving the young MotoGP star a whopping vote of confidence going into 2015.

Redding had a tough season in 2014, riding an Open Honda that should have been far more competitive than it was. He had to adjust to many things, including the bike being almost as small as his Marc VDS Moto2 (no mean feat when you’re 6ft 1in tall) but some top-ten finishes have proven he has what it takes.

Next year sees him on a factory RC213V with his old band around him and a vastly-experienced crew chief in the shape of Chris Pike. The Valencia test was a huge learning curve but the pair found a direction and Sepang won’t come fast enough.

Redding was the runaway winner of your vote, polling 23.21% per cent of the votes with four-time British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne in second place on 16.60 per cent.

Jonathan Rea bagged the last podium spot with 14.71 per cent while Moto3 rider John McPhee was fourth on 7.15 per cent. Bradley Smith rounded out the top five on 5.94 per cent.
