Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes has edged ever closer to his maiden MCE British Superbike title, after he did the double during this race weekend at Silverstone and could lift the championship trophy after race one at Brands Hatch in two weeks.
Brookes extended his lead to 47 points over title rival, PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne and the duelling duo are the only two riders who can challenge for the championship, going into the final round at Brands.
The Bringelly native had the confidence in his R1 to keep pushing for the win in both events, and even after a steady start in the final outing he fought back from as low as eighth - to snatch another victory for his Milwaukee team.
“I certainly found it difficult at the start of the second race as I got pushed wide at turn one and I felt that I was in a good place and I was right next to John Hopkins and he beat me to the first turn and through the first section in the first race so I thought if I sayed with him it would make for a good race,” said Brookes.
“Exiting the turn he moved wide and I got squeezed out and I lost momentum and a few positions. I knew right from the start it was then going to be difficult. I got momentum going again and I had a great battle with Christian Iddon but every time I got in front of him he would slam me back and I was wasting a lot of laps as I needed to make some forward progress.
“It wasn’t until I was in front of him that I could move forward with confidence and the bike definitely worked better than race one. I moved to the front and then I could ride my own lines and rhythm and I had confidence to keep pushing harder and harder. I am looking forward to returning to Brands Hatch now for the final round.”
