Silverstone BSB: ‘Real fight starts at next round’ – Brookes

Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha’s Josh Brookes clinched the victory in the second MCE British Superbike race at Silverstone and the win was enough to secure his spot in the showdown.

Now the former BSB champion is looking ahead to the final three rounds and has admitted that the ‘real fight’ will start at Oulton Park. Brookes is third in the overall standings and has a total of 522 points.

The fight for the title is tight at the top with only 10 points separating Brookes from series leader, Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne. In the final race Brookes was on course to potentially do the double at the circuit, but was spat off his R1 on lap 12 in the final rain sodden event.

Brookes was unhurt in the crash and had already done enough to be inside the top six, so the pressure was off slightly going into race three. Being in the showdown was always the aim for the Australian, now he is feeling confident ahead of the last three BSB rounds.

“Throughout the year I expected to sit in this position and today was certainly challenging. Being confirmed in the showdown made it slightly less stressful race than the ones fighting for that final position. The real fight starts at the next round,” said Brookes.

“You have got to look at the facts and I am riding well and we are in a position to win so hopefully we can manage the situation so we can stay in that range and the tracks coming up are good circuits for me so there is no reason not to be confident.

“But look what happened today the championship is full of interesting circumstances so we have to try and stay focused and not make mistakes.”
