Silverstone BSB: Season best result for Laverty

Tyco BMW's Michael Laverty finished the final MCE British Superbike race at Silverstone in second place, which is his best result of the season so far.

The Northern Irishman was the only rider inside the top ten to opt for the harder SC1 rear tyre compound, and was locked in an exciting battle for second with Showdown rider, Honda Racing's Dan Linfoot.

Laverty held firm and had the pace to better the Fireblade and crossed the finishing line behind championship leader, Milwaukee Yamaha's Josh Brookes. The S1000RR racer is currently fourth in the overall standings, just twenty points adrift of JG Speedfit Kawasaki's James Ellison.

"I had to work really hard in the early laps to stay with the leading guys as I was the only one out there who chose the hard rear tyre so I was lacking a bit of the corner speed they had so I had to really fight," said
Laverty.

"We made that decision on Friday as we hoped it would mean we could be strong at the end of the race. It didn't quite work out in race one but I was pegging them back. We made some clever changes for race two and they made a real difference even with the hard tyre.

"I dropped back and then fought back to get back ahead of Christian Iddon, Shakey and Dan Linfoot. Second place was a good end to the weekend, we didn't quite have the answer for Josh, but we will go back to the drawing board, and maybe we can have something more at Brands Hatch."
