Silverstone BSB: 'We've a mountain to climb' - Byrne

PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne admits that he has a ‘mountain to climb’ if he is to retain his MCE British Superbike title in 2015.

Byrne has labelled his weekend as ‘tough’ but he did make it on to the podium in second place in the opening race at Silverstone. But he lost out on another rostrum in the final outing, and was beaten by Bennetts Suzuki’s Christian Iddon to fourth spot.

Byrne is second in the overall standings but hasn’t given up the fight to win his fifth BSB championship title, and ‘will take it to’ Brookes at his home round at Brands Hatch.

Starting from tenth for the first race was a bit rubbish, but Silverstone has a lot of overtaking opportunities so I wasn’t too downbeat plus we knew what the problem was,” said Byrne.

“We had a tough start to the weekend, but that’s why I like the team so much as they work so hard for me and they gave me a great bike for the race. I dug in as deep as I could and I thought I might have a chance to win but second place was OK.

“Race two didn’t go to plan and now we have a bit of a mountain to climb, but we’ve not given up just yet and will take it to Josh again at Brands Hatch in two weeks time.”
