Snetterton BSB: Hutchinson bags Superstock 1000 victory

Tyco BMW’s Ian Hutchinson cruised to his first Pirelli National Superstock 1000 win of the year, and his first short circuit victory since Oulton Park back in 2009.

The multiple TT race winner took full advantage of a lap one coming together between Josh Elliott and championship leader Taylor Mackenzie.

Elliott lunged under the inside of Mackenzie at Montreal and the pair collided, forcing Mackenzie to hit the deck. After their collision and consequential war of words at Knockhill, this time the shoe was on the other foot.

Mackenzie branded Elliott “a clown” for the move that ended his race, before going on to state “if [Elliott] wants a war, he’s got one”. The incident is currently under investigation.

Taking full advantage of the duo dropping backwards, Hutchinson took the lead and cleared off into the distance. Setting the fastest lap of the race, just a tenth outside of the lap record, he eventually took the chequered flag over six seconds clear.

As the pack head to Thruxton, Mackenzie’s championship lead has been slashed down to just eleven points as a result of Hutchinson’s win.

The battle for the final podium places was hotly contested with pole position man Michael Rutter having to hold off Keith Farmer and Fraser Rogers.

After a long scrap where all three got their chance to hold second place, Rogers came out on top to claim his debut Stock 1000 podium and was closely followed by Rutter, who in turn came across the line 0.125 of a second ahead of Farmer.

Tyco BMW’s Elliott recovered to fifth place but that position is provisional with the investigation for the lap one incident currently ongoing.

NEI Motorsport’s Adam Jenkinson came through from the back of the grid to take sixth place, fighting off the close attention of James East and Jesse Trayler. Rounding out the top ten were James Rose and Leon Jeacock.
