Snetterton BSB: Solid points the aim for Cooper

Anvil Hire TAG Racing’s Richard Cooper is up to twelfth in the overall MCE British Superbike Championship standings, after recovering from what he described as probably the biggest high-side of his career in FP3, to finish in tenth and twelfth during yesterday’s double-header at Snetterton.

The diminutive rider suffered whiplash and a bang to his hip during the final free practice session on Saturday, after he lost the front going into the Bombhole, but he will now have some physio to prepare for the next round at Knockhill. His team have already tested at the Scottish track this season and have some handy data to prepare them for the fifth round in the series.

But to be consistently in the top six is the aim for Cooper, and he is pleased that he managed to bring home some solid points for his crew on Sunday.

“Weekend has been up and down, as I literally have been up and down. Saturday morningg I was confident with the bike after a good Friday practice but on lap six on FP3 I caught out at the Bomb Hole and perhaps had the biggest high side of my career, and I made sure my arm was still attached,” said Cooper, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.

“We were tenth in race one and twelfth in race two – it’s a strong field. We need to work on some areas on the bike, so I can be inside the top ten. I am good enough to be in the top six and we have got some good strong points. We have tested at Knockhill – so we have a bit of data to go on too.

“I am quite sore to be fair and I have got whiplash and took a bang to the hip, so I was a bit stiff for race day. But we have a few weeks till Knockhill and I will get some physio and get fixed up again to be ready for the next round.”
