Snetterton BSB test: Record-breaker Brookes stays in front

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes ensured he stayed at the top of the Snetterton MCE British Superbike testing tree in the day’s final session by going under the1’47s bracket with his last run to put in a 1’46.861 and beat his own lap record by a second.

The Australian spent a majority of the day working on tyre life but managed to set a 1’47.119 in the second session to beat his best from yesterday but at the end of the final hour, he moved from a 1’47.283 to a 1’47.097 and then stuck in his last lap to finish almost half a second ahead of Shane Byrne.

Brookes has put in more than ten sub 1’48s laps during the day which is ominous for the competition when they return to the circuit for round four of the championship in a couple of weeks’ time.

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison was third fastest of the day, setting a 1’47.441 to end 0.580s off the pace with the Ducati of Jakub Smrz in fourth, 0.064s slower than the Kendal native.

Brookes’ team-mate Broc Parkes has finally got to grips with the Yamaha and Pirelli tyres. He set a 1’47.976 as his fastest to occupy fifth place, using the new fuel tank that Brookes debuted yesterday.
