Snetterton BSB: Ward flys to Stock 600 victory

Aero Legends Yamaha’s Tom Ward eased his way to a second Pirelli National Superstock 600 win of the season, after battling past championship leader Carl Phillips and South African Jordan Weaving in the opening stages.

Moto-Breakers Kawasaki’s Keenan Armstrong took the holeshot from the front row of the grid but was quickly pushed back to second as Sandown Racing’s Phillips dived through on the inside at Montreal.

Meanwhile, Ward was starting to build up some momentum. Having qualified on the second row he battled through to third place and took little time in getting past Weaving.

Phillips knew Ward was coming and on the run down to Montreal took a big look over his shoulder, only for Ward to dive past on the brakes and take the lead.

The long haired rider posted a new fastest lap of the race and despite Phillips staying in contention, with two laps to go, Ward pulled the pin and eased clear of the duo behind him to take the chequered flag.

In the battle for second place, Weaving came out on top after lunging past Phillips at Montreal on the penultimate lap. However, Phillips was still able to extend his championship lead to 46 points over Brad Jones.

Tsingtao MV Agusta’s Scott Deroue had by far and away his ride of the year, crossing the line in fourth place after fighting off the attention of Armstrong, who eventually crashed out late on.

Kurt Wigley got the better of Tom Nerve and Harry Truelove to claim fifth place, with CPE Motorsport’s Brad Jones grabbing eighth place.

Rounding out the top ten were Scotsman Lewis Rollo and Ben Luxton.
