Marquez risking 2018 MotoGP crown with crashes – Stoner

Two-time MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner, arguably the fastest motorcycle racer ever, believes that Marc Marquez needs to call a halt to his Friday and Saturday crashes as they are putting his 2018 championship at risk.

Stoner has been observing the championship from the sidelines and is worried that one of Marquez’ small crashes, of which he has a few each weekend, could quickly turn into a big crash which puts the championship in jeopardy.

“It’s a strange championship and Marc appears to be the only one who is consistent, getting the points and pulling a gap. We will see what happens but if Marc crashes in one race, that deficitis halved,” said Stoner.

“As we have seen, Marc crashes a lot during the weekend. Not during the race but with the amount he is having it could be all square at any moment. For sure he doesn’t want to crash because that increases the chance of getting injured.

“As much as everyone says they’re only small crashes, at any moment it can turn into a big one, you can trap a hand under the bars, so he needs to pay attention to this. You can get away with small crashes but it only takes one big one and it can cost you the championship or even more than one season.”
