Sykes, Rea obliterate lap record on final day of Jerez test

Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea ended the final day of World Superbike testing at Jerez well underneath the existing pole position record at the Spanish track, posting 1’39.313 and 1’39.524 respectively.

Sykes record of 1’40.292, set at this year’s race , was comprehensively blown out of the water by the two men while both Xavi Fores and WSBK new boy Nicky Hayden were also faster in third and fourth places on the timesheet.

Fores was six-tenths behind Rea on the Barni Ducati Panigale while Hayden went some eight-tenths quicker than Michael Van Der Mark managed on the same bike in qualifying at Jerez earlier in the season.

Chaz Davies, on the works Aruba Ducati, ended the day in fifth place on a 1’40.774 while the returning Davide Giugliano set a 1’41.152 compared to his team-mate’s 1’40.774. Leon Camier, on the MV Agusta, was just a tenth further back.
