Three riders in the Showdown is Rymer’s 2016 BSB plan

Former British Superbike and World Endurance Champion Terry Rymer had his first weekend as manager of the JG Speedfit Kawasaki MCE British Superbike squad at Brands and he’s set his ambitions stall out early.

The Londoner, affectionately known as ’Too-Tall Tel’, has stated he wants Leon Haslam, James Ellison and Peter Hickman to occupy three of the six Showdown spots when the cut is made after Oulton Park’s triple-header in September.

Haslam is a shoo-in for a spot while Ellison is just three points away from the top six. Hickman is a little further back and needs a row of top-five results to claw his way back into contention, but Rymer knows the task and what he has to do.

“What I am here for is to assess and evaluate how the team is working, get to know the team members and try and get an understanding on the dynamics of the team. For instance, we have got three riders which means we have got three chief engineers and the guys here are all capable people and the riders are capable, the team is a good team,” Rymer told BSN at Brands.

“We need to maybe get a little bit of a direction change possibly, and maybe input from me, I’m hoping, will help and try to get the team gelling a bit better as well. And if we can do that we are starting to move in the right direction.

“There is no magic wand to be floated around and everything is going to be great – it is going to be a lot of hard work and a bit of structuring and also to set out some procedures that will enable us to move forward in the right manner.

“The goal is to get all three riders in the Showdown and if we can get 50 per cent of the Showdown riders then we have done a great job. It is still doable, and Pete is riding really well. We have got a good package of riders there is no doubt about that, but it is getting the package delivered in the way it should be delivered.”
