Thruxton BSB: Brookes hails 'perfect' weekend

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes had a faultless MCE British Superbike race weekend at Thruxton and reached the top step of the podium twice in one day, to bag his fourth victory on the bounce.

Not only did he win both races he broke the lap record that has stuck for nine years, after a 1’14.884 in race-two, going 0.01 seconds under the time set by Gregorio Lavilla back in 2006.

He now has a twelve point lead in the championship from title rival, PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne and is glad that he has awarded his team with two trophies today, and is happy that moral is high in the garage. Now they are feeling positive going into the next round at Cadwell.

“Double win again and we came into this round with confidence. I look forward to Thruxton it is a unique place. It has been an almost perfect weekend, we were confident with the bike that we could get a perfect race simulation at the start of the weekend,” said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“To be able to reward the team with the number one spot in the series is nice and keeps moral high. It just makes it nicer when you have a successful weekend.

“The guys always will make the bike perfect for the races - the more they work the better the results and the more they want to work, it is a great and a positive situation. The only negative is that you have the pressure of having that number one position [in the Championship], but I am focusing on the positives and increasing the championship lead.”

Team manager Mick Shanley said to bikesportnews.com: “It has been a faultless weekend for Josh. We have got to be over the moon, and to get a double win here and at Brands - and getting the lap record too is unbelievable.

“We have to keep the momentum going, and at least we are in a position to keep ourselves in contention and not playing catch up all the time, and it is nice to be leading the championship too, and rack up the podium credits.”
