Thruxton BSB: Brookes remains top after second session

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes topped the MCE British Superbike free practice timesheets for the second time today, after going 0.3 seconds faster than his best time that he set this morning at Thruxton.

A 1’15.384 was good enough to out-pace, Moto Rapido Ducati’s substitute rider, John Hopkins who impressed on the Panigale to go second quickest on the sheets with a 1’15.525 rotation. The former MotoGP man is standing in for the crocked Jakub Smrz.

Anvil Hire TAG Racing’s Richard Cooper has retained his good form from the last round, and was consistently lapping times in the mid 1’15’s and placed his ZX-10R third fastest, and it was another solid session for JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Westmoreland who was fourth.

Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey completed the top five, followed by Iddon and McConnell. PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne couldn’t push his way up the timing-screens and did not better his best time from FP1, and had to settle for eighth, just ahead of Hickman and Walker, Buchan and Hutchinson.

There were a few riders who experienced technical problems out on the track, and they included; Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Howie Mainwaring who came to a stop at the Club Chicane, and Morello Racing’s Lee Costello who had an issue at Goodwood.

Team WD-40’s Irish rider had difficulties at Church, bringing an abrupt end to his free practice outing, while he was fifth fastest overall. Milwaukee Yamaha’s stand-in rider, Pirelli National Superstock 1000 regular, Adam Jenkinson is riding in the place of injured, Broc Parkes and ended FP2 in a respectable fifteenth on the sheets.
