Be Wiser Ducati's Shane Byrne was the fastest rider during the first MCE British Superbike free practice session at Thruxton. The current championship leader lapped a 1'15.111 to top the timesheets this morning.
Tyco BMW's Christian Iddon experienced a technical problem a few seconds before the chequered flag appeared at Seagrave, but he had already done enough to go P2 with a 1'15.538, but he was still 0.4s off the time set by Byrne. Quattro Plant Kawasaki's Luke Mossey completed the top three and was one tenth slower than Iddon after a 1'15.633 rotation.
Buildbase BMW's Lee Jackson just missed out on a spot inside the top three, but ended FP1 in fourth followed by Honda Racing's Jason O'Halloran and FS-3 Racing's Billy McConnell.
Cooper, Linfoot, Bridewell and Dixon rounded off the top ten, with ePayMe Yamaha's Stuart Easton finishing the session in eleventh. Tyco BMW's Michael Laverty went P15 with James Ellison the fastest of the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider's and was 21st on the sheets.
The last time Leon Haslam rode on the Hampshire track it was nearly eight years ago, and he got his first taste of the circuit in many years this morning. The Smalley rider went P24, just behind team-mate Peter Hickman on the timing screens.
Reigning Dickies British Supersport champ, Luke Stapleford is wildcarding on the third Smiths Racing bike and on the S1000RR went 31st. His team-mate for the weekend, Howie Mainwaring had a technical issue and came to a halt at Cobb.
